Unit #5 Topics:
Being a Good Citizen
Cooperation Works!
Our Heroes
Preserving Our Earth
Rights and Rules
This unit asks the question, "How can people make a difference?" The class will also go over the basic rights, rules, and liberties afforded to [United States] citizens. Students will learn about entrepreneurs, social activists, philanthropists, and their journeys in becoming who they are today. Students will explain how they feel these people were valuable contributors to society, and how we can be useful in improving our surroundings, as well. We will discuss how people can even help others through their career or job choices, or simply as a community service to all.
We will then list some of our heroes, and talk about what important qualities these heroic figures emulate. After this important discussion, we will figure out what ways we can do our best to help those around us. As a class, we will discuss times that someone made a difference in our lives and helped us. This may be from a friend cheering them up when they were sad, to improving the neighborhood community, city, county, or state. We will continually be discussing why it is important for people to work together to make positive changes in their communities, and how we can do this! By the end of this unit, students should be able to tell several ways that people (including them!) can make a difference and a positive impact for all.
