Unit #4 Topics:
Different Places
Earth Changes
Our Culture Makes Us Special
Folktales About Nature
Poems About Nature
Throughout this unit, we will discuss different places we can live, in and outside of the United States. We will learn how different environments, habitats, and topographical features can affect how we live our lives. We will learn how different groups of people have adapted to different climates, cultures, and ways of life.
We will also cover the changes that impact Earth's communities. We will discuss changes and cycles in nature. We will learn about people all over the world, and how they have learned to live in vastly different climates. We will also discuss needs vs. wants, including survival needs for [human] life. By the end of this unit, students should be able to describe how different environments make the world an interesting place to live in.
This unit will conclude with storytelling. We will learn how stories are passed down through generations, cultures, and time. **If you have any interesting stories that have been passed on through generations of your family, please share them with your child, so that they may share them with the class. We will also relate through discussion of our own lives, as well as family members' lives, and what makes a great story live on through the generations. As we are reading well-known folktales and legends, we will practice formatting the key parts of a story, in order to write and tell our own great stories.
